Extensive ongoing research goes into breeding and the production of South African Appaloosa horses, aiming for Stud Book Proper (SP), using pure-bred horses where possible as the foundation stock of the Stud. Older Appaloosa lines are carefully selected for breeding stock - conformation, height, movement, temperament, as well as a variety of colour patterns being the larger part of the criteria. This 'recipe' has proved to be most successful with the resultant foals having the necessary attributes for future multi-discipline ridden work, as well as top quality breeding and showing stock.
Nightingales Appaloosa Stud is located in Mnandi, Gauteng, close to Kyalami – easily accessible by road. Viewings are welcome (please phone to arrange appointment to view).
Horses or foals are sometimes available for sale and bookings for future foals can be arranged in advance.

Horses are worked with on a daily basis by ourselves - this ensures that all horses and foals are well mannered, halter trained and used to farrier or veterinarian work. We aim for vice free horses.
Our horses are well known for their excellent behavior and kind natures - all ages.
We strive to ensure that all horses are of show quality, backed and/or ridden and that all young-stock are safe and a pleasure to handle. Where possible, young fillies and colts are taken to Shows at an early age so they become accustomed to being boxed and are accustomed to the Show ring. Most of our studs horses are Multiple Show Champions – breeding Show Champion to Show Champion for future Show Champions!

All stallions used in our breeding program are chosen for their ability to improve on or add to the quality of the mare as well as extend the bloodline and must have exceptional character, conformation and movement to further enhance the breed.
We are truly lucky to have the opportunity of owning and breeding such wonderful horses.
